Why concrete moves in the Detroit area

A slab at the end of a long life shows it in its face and edges — surface gone, aggregate exposed, crumbling at the boundaries, cracks with rough deteriorated faces. A slab that is merely displaced usually stays intact, with cracks whose two sides would still fit together. The first calls for replacement; the second is often correctable.

Half my street has replaced their driveways. Should I?

It is a reason to inspect properly, not a diagnosis. Where a neighbourhood went up in one push, the drives are the same age and often arrive at the end together — but two drives of identical age can be in genuinely different condition depending on what has drained across them and what has driven on them.
